£30,000 Data Guarantee

We back the accuracy of every Carpeep vehicle history report with a £30,000 Data Guarantee. This page sets out exactly what the guarantee covers, how it works, and how to make a claim if you ever need to.

What we guarantee

The Data Guarantee applies specifically to three categories of information:

  • Outstanding finance — money still owed against the vehicle
  • Insurance write-off status
  • Stolen vehicle status

The guarantee covers these three data points up to a maximum of £30,000 per vehicle check. The sections below explain the full terms.

When a claim may apply

For a claim to be considered, all of the following must be true:

  • The finance, write-off, or stolen status was incorrect or absent at the time the report was generated.
  • You ran the report before buying the vehicle and relied on it when making your decision.
  • You suffered a direct, provable financial loss as a result.

Eligibility conditions

All of the conditions below must be met for a claim to be eligible. We've written these as clearly as we can.

1. The vehicle must match the report

The vehicle you bought must be the same one identified in the Carpeep report. If the vehicle has been cloned, substituted, or misidentified — for example, if the registration plate doesn't correspond to the actual vehicle — the guarantee cannot apply.

2. No prior reason to suspect a problem

At the time of purchase, there must have been no reasonable grounds to suspect an issue with finance, write-off status, or theft. If the seller raised concerns that contradicted the report and you chose to proceed anyway, the guarantee will not apply.

3. The report was used before purchase

The report must have been obtained before buying the vehicle and genuinely used as part of your decision to go ahead. If the report was run after the purchase, or wasn't actually relied upon, the guarantee does not apply.

4. You can evidence the transaction

You'll need to show evidence of the purchase — including the price paid, date of purchase, and details of the seller. Payment must have been made in a way that can be independently verified (for example, bank transfer or card payment).

5. Claim notified within 30 days

You must notify Carpeep of any potential claim within 30 days of the report being generated. Claims raised after this period are not eligible. If you think something may be wrong, please get in touch as soon as possible.

6. The vehicle must be available for review

Please don't sell, transfer, or significantly alter the vehicle before we've had a chance to review your claim. We may need to inspect or verify the vehicle as part of the process.

7. Accurate and complete information

The information you provide when making a claim must be honest, complete, and consistent. Claims may be declined if any material information is missing or misleading.

8. For private buyers only

This guarantee is for private individuals buying a vehicle for personal use. It does not apply to purchases made in connection with the motor trade, business use, resale, or hire.

Scope of the guarantee

The guarantee applies specifically to outstanding finance, insurance write-off status, and stolen vehicle status — the three checks where an inaccuracy could lead to a direct financial loss at the point of purchase. These are the areas where we're confident in the data we provide and where we're prepared to stand behind it fully.

A vehicle history report is a data check, not a physical inspection. There are things it can tell you and things it cannot — and the guarantee reflects that distinction. It does not extend to:

  • Data that was added, corrected, or updated after the report was generated
  • Mileage or odometer readings
  • Vehicle condition, mechanical state, or cosmetic issues
  • Misrepresentation or fraud by the seller
  • Delays or gaps in data held by third-party sources
  • Indirect or consequential losses, or any perceived reduction in vehicle value

We always recommend pairing a history check with a physical inspection before buying any used vehicle.

How much we'll pay

Where a valid claim is accepted, Carpeep will compensate you for the actual financial loss directly caused by the incorrect data — up to a maximum of £30,000 per report.

Compensation is limited to direct financial loss. We're not able to pay for inconvenience, loss of opportunity, or distress.
