Reg check FAQs

What is a reg check?

A reg check looks up a vehicle’s records using its registration number. Carpeep’s report covers its finance, write-off, theft, mileage, MOT and ownership history.

What do I need to check a car by reg?

Just the registration. You don’t need the V5C logbook, the seller’s details or an account.

Does a reg check show outstanding finance?

Finance isn’t held by the DVLA, so a basic lookup won’t show it. The Full History Report checks UK finance records for HP, PCP and conditional sale agreements.

Does a reg check show if a car has been written off?

Yes. The report shows recorded insurance write-offs, including Cat S and Cat N.

Is a reg check the same as a number plate check?

They both start from the registration. A number plate check is often about the plate itself, such as its age and where it was issued, while a reg check looks up the vehicle’s records.
