CheckCarDetails runs one of the largest free vehicle lookups in the UK. Type a registration and you get tax status, full MOT history, mileage with discrepancy alerts, spec, fuel economy, ULEZ status, Euro NCAP scores and a 30 second valuation, all without paying. For a quick sanity check on an advert, that is genuinely useful and costs nothing.
The provenance data sits behind paid reports. Their FAQ describes three: basic, Gold and Full. It tells you to use the Gold Check for stolen markers, write-off damage and salvage history, and the Full Check for outstanding finance including logbook loans. So the answer to the question most buyers care about, is there money owed on this car, sits in the top tier.

Does the CheckCarDetails free check show outstanding finance?
No. Their FAQ tells you to use the Full Check for an outstanding finance result, which returns the finance company and a contact number where available. The free lookup covers tax, MOT history, mileage, specification and similar DVLA data. Finance is the single most expensive thing to miss on a used car, so it is worth paying for wherever you buy it.
What is the difference between the Gold Check and the Full Check?
Their FAQ points you to the Gold Check for stolen markers, write-off damage and salvage history with auction photos, and to the Full Check for outstanding finance including logbook loans. So the two risks most buyers want, finance and write-off, sit in different products. Carpeep puts both in the same £15 report along with everything else it holds.
Is Carpeep cheaper than CheckCarDetails?

Does either provider cover service history?
CheckCarDetails sells a dealer service history report as a separate optional extra at £7.59, and says it refunds minus a processing fee if no records are found. Carpeep does not cover service history at all. What Carpeep does show is every MOT reading and advisory, which is the closest public record of how a car has been treated.
Do I need an account to use Carpeep?
