Bentley History Check
A Continental GT or Bentayga can carry a finance balance larger than most family cars are worth, and a £15 Carpeep report tells you whether money is still owed on the car in front of you.
Included in your report:
- Outstanding finance
- Write-off markers
- Stolen vehicle check
- Mileage from MOT records
- Keeper history
- Plate transfers

What a Bentley history check helps you spot.
The risks that cost buyers the most are the ones you cannot spot on a test drive. These are the ones the report puts in front of you.
Big balances left running
Bentleys are usually bought on finance and rarely settled early. Check the plate before you agree a price.
Expensive damage, quietly repaired
Repair bills climb fast on a Continental, so insurers write cars off sooner than you would expect.
Low miles that need proving
Many Bentleys cover very few miles a year. The MOT readings show whether that is genuine.
Bentley history check
A Bentley is worth checking properly.
Bentleys sell in small numbers and are usually bought on finance rather than outright, with agreements running for years on balances far above an ordinary used car. A Continental GT or Flying Spur on its second or third keeper can still have money owed against it. If it does, the lender has a claim on the car whatever you paid the seller.
Depreciation does the rest. A W12 Continental that cost supercar money new can sit in the classifieds at the price of a mid-range saloon, which pulls in buyers who cannot absorb a hidden problem. The gap between what a Bentley costs to buy and what it costs to repair is where most used-market trouble starts.
Risks to check on a used Bentley.
Every used Bentley has a history. These are the specific things worth confirming before you commit.
Large agreements still running
PCP and hire purchase deals on a Bentayga or Flying Spur leave balances far larger than most private buyers expect, and a seller under pressure has every reason not to mention one. Carpeep checks for hire purchase, PCP and conditional sale agreements registered against the plate.
Write-offs after modest damage
Air suspension, ceramic brakes and aluminium panels make Bentley repairs costly, so a car can be declared a Cat S or Cat N loss after damage that looks minor. Repaired examples then reappear at tempting prices. Carpeep shows the write-off category and when it was recorded.
Theft and identity cloning
High-value cars are targets, and a stolen Bentayga can be given the identity of a legitimate car of the same colour and spec. Carpeep checks police stolen markers and cross-references the VIN and recorded specification, so an identity that does not match the plate shows up.
Miles that jump between owners
Bentleys often sit for months, so annual mileages are low and a small change in a reading is easy to miss. Carpeep lists every mileage taken at MOT, and a Continental that gains twenty thousand miles in a year it was supposedly garaged is worth questioning.

What a Bentley history check covers.
Every Carpeep report runs the same core checks against the registration. This is what each one tells you.
Finance
Flags any outstanding finance recorded against the vehicle, so you know whether a lender still has a legal claim.
Car finance checkAccident and write-off history
Shows any recorded accident or insurance write-off marker (Cat A, B, S or N), with the category and date.
Write-off checkStolen status
Cross-references police records to flag any theft marker against the registration and VIN.
Stolen car checkMileage history
Builds a mileage timeline from MOT readings so you can spot drops or inconsistencies that point to clocking.
Mileage checkKeeper & import status
Keeper history, import and export markers, plate changes and the recorded vehicle details.
Import checkWhich Bentleys sell used in the UK.
The Continental GT dominates, with the Bentayga now feeding the market.
The Continental GT and GTC make up most used Bentley listings, first as the W12 and later as the V8, which is cheaper to run and easier to find serviced properly. The Flying Spur covers the same ground with four doors and tends to have been used by a chauffeur or a business rather than an enthusiast.
The Bentayga arrived in 2016 and is now reaching second and third keepers, which is exactly the point at which finance agreements taken out from new are still running. Look at air suspension advisories in the MOT record, check the keeper count against the age, and treat an unusually cheap car as a question, not a bargain.
Before you buy
When to run a Bentley history check.
Run it before you put down a deposit. On a car at this level the finance result is the one that matters most, because an unsettled agreement can cost you the whole purchase price and the car with it. The check needs only the registration.
Run it again on any car sold privately or by a small independent. Bentleys move between traders quickly, and each move is a chance for a write-off record or an old finance agreement to be left out of the description. The report does not rely on what the seller tells you.

Bentley History Check FAQs
Why does finance matter so much on a used Bentley?
Because the sums are large and the agreement stays with the car. If a Continental GT is sold while hire purchase or PCP money is still owed, the lender keeps a legal interest and can repossess it from the new keeper. Carpeep checks for outstanding agreements before you commit any money.
Does the report show a Bentley's service history?
No. Main dealer and specialist service records are not held in any national database, so no check can show them. Ask the seller for stamps and invoices, then use Carpeep for the parts that are recorded: MOT tests and advisories, mileage readings, keeper changes, finance, write-off and stolen markers.
Are many Bentleys imported or exported?
Movement in both directions is common at this end of the market, with cars coming from the Middle East and Europe and UK cars leaving for export. An import or export marker changes the paperwork and the buyer pool. Carpeep flags both, along with plate transfers and colour changes recorded against the car.
Do private plates hide a Bentley's history?
They can confuse it. Bentleys often wear personalised registrations, and a plate that has moved on or off the car breaks the trail if you only search the current number. Carpeep records plate transfer dates, so you can see when the registration changed and match it against the rest of the history.
Is a £15 check enough for a car this expensive?
It answers the questions a database can answer: finance, write-off, stolen, mileage, keepers, identity and MOT record. It does not replace a physical inspection by a marque specialist, which is worth paying for on any Continental or Bentayga. Run the £15 report first, then inspect the cars that pass.
