What a Polestar history check helps you spot.
The risks that cost buyers the most are the ones you cannot spot on a test drive. These are the ones the report puts in front of you.
Lease and PCP cars
Almost every Polestar 2 started life on a lease, salary sacrifice scheme or PCP. Confirm the agreement is settled before you pay a private seller.
Company car first keepers
Favourable company car tax put many into business fleets. Keeper history shows whether the first keeper was a company and how long it stayed.
Write-offs after light damage
Repair costs on a modern electric car climb quickly. A Cat S or Cat N marker can sit behind bodywork that still looks perfect.
Polestar history check
A young electric brand needs different questions.
Polestar has only been delivering cars in Britain since 2020, and the Polestar 2 accounts for almost all of them. The Polestar 3 arrived much later and in far smaller numbers. That means there is no long history to trace on these cars, and the checks that matter most concern money and damage rather than decades of wear.
The brand sells directly rather than through a conventional dealer network, with Volvo workshops handling much of the servicing. Most cars reached their first keeper through a lease, a salary sacrifice scheme or a PCP, so the used ones you are looking at are typically returns from those arrangements rather than long term private sales.
Risks to check on a used Polestar.
Every used Polestar has a history. These are the specific things worth confirming before you commit.
Agreements still running
The whole used Polestar market is made of recent cars, and used electric values fell sharply after 2023. That combination leaves owners owing more than the car is worth, which is when private sales happen with the lender unpaid. Check for hire purchase, PCP and conditional sale before any money moves.
Insurance write-offs on light damage
Structural aluminium, cameras, radar and battery proximity make accident repair expensive on a Polestar 2. Insurers write cars off at damage levels that would be repaired on a cheaper car. Look for Cat S and Cat N markers, because a repaired car can present beautifully.
Fleet and salary sacrifice miles
Low benefit in kind tax pushed a lot of these cars into company schemes, where they cover long motorway distances quickly. Keeper history tells you whether a company held it first, and the MOT mileage readings show how fast those miles were accumulated over the years since.
Specification you have to verify
The Polestar 2 changed substantially for the 2024 model year, including a switch to rear wheel drive on the single motor version. Single motor, dual motor and Performance Pack cars are all advertised loosely. The recorded specification in the report gives you an official reference to compare against the listing.

What a Polestar history check covers.
Every Carpeep report runs the same core checks against the registration. This is what each one tells you.
Finance
Flags any outstanding finance recorded against the vehicle, so you know whether a lender still has a legal claim.
Car finance checkAccident and write-off history
Shows any recorded accident or insurance write-off marker (Cat A, B, S or N), with the category and date.
Write-off checkStolen status
Cross-references police records to flag any theft marker against the registration and VIN.
Stolen car checkMileage history
Builds a mileage timeline from MOT readings so you can spot drops or inconsistencies that point to clocking.
Mileage checkKeeper & import status
Keeper history, import and export markers, plate changes and the recorded vehicle details.
Import checkBuying a used Polestar in the UK.
What is out there, and what the record can and cannot tell you.
The Polestar 2 makes up nearly all used stock, in single motor and dual motor forms, with Performance Pack cars sitting at the top and Plus and Pilot option packs varying widely between examples. The Polestar 3 is rarer and newer. The Polestar 1, a low volume hybrid coupe, appears only occasionally and belongs to a different conversation about collectability.
Two things sit outside any registration based check. Battery state of health is one, so ask a franchised workshop for a report and judge real world range yourself on a long test drive. Recall status is the other, and Polestar has issued software and hardware campaigns, so ask the seller and the service network directly. Everything else, from finance to write-off markers to keeper history, is in the report.
Before you buy
When to run a Polestar history check.
Run it as soon as you have a registration. On a car this new, the two things that cost buyers real money are an unsettled finance agreement and a previous write-off, and neither is visible on a viewing or a test drive.
Check again before a deposit, particularly on a private sale. A car coming straight out of a lease or PCP is exactly the case where you want the record to back up what the seller is telling you.

Polestar History Check FAQs
How do I check a used Polestar before buying?
Enter the registration and the report returns outstanding finance, insurance write-off markers, police stolen markers, mileage from DVSA MOT readings, the full MOT test history with advisories, keeper history and keeper change dates, plate transfers, import and export markers and the recorded vehicle specification. It works the same on a Polestar 2 or a Polestar 3.
Why does finance matter so much on a used Polestar?
Because the cars are recent and used electric values dropped sharply, some owners owe more than the car is now worth. The report shows any hire purchase, PCP or conditional sale agreement logged against the registration, so you can see before you pay whether a lender still has a claim on it.
Can I check the battery health of a Polestar 2?
No. Battery state of health is not part of vehicle registration data, so it cannot come from a registration lookup. Ask a franchised workshop for a battery health report and watch the predicted range on a long test drive. The report still covers finance, write-off, stolen, mileage, MOT and keeper records for the car.
Are electric cars written off more easily?
Repair costs are the deciding factor, and they are high on cars like these. Aluminium structure, driver assistance sensors and anything close to the battery pack push repair bills up fast, so an insurer may settle rather than repair. The report shows Cat A, B, S and N markers plus the older C and D categories.
Does a Polestar have MOT history to check?
It does once the car is three years old and has taken its first test. Earlier cars have a short but useful record of test results, advisories and mileage readings. On a car too new for an MOT, lean on keeper history, keeper change dates, finance status and write-off markers instead, and ask for the service record.
