A later MOT reading is lower than an earlier one. We recommend verifying the mileage with the seller.

What a SsangYong / KGM history check helps you spot.
The risks that cost buyers the most are the ones you cannot spot on a test drive. These are the ones the report puts in front of you.
Finance still running
Musso and Rexton buyers often take long agreements. The balance can outlive the seller's interest in the vehicle.
Towing miles
Rexton and Musso do heavy trailer work. Check the MOT readings for a gap or a sudden flat year.
Badge and name changes
SsangYong became KGM in the UK. Make sure the V5C, the plate and the advert all describe the same vehicle.
SsangYong / KGM history check
SsangYong and KGM in the UK used market.
SsangYong sold on value rather than badge, and that shapes who buys one second hand. The Tivoli and Korando went to families who wanted space for the money. The Rexton and the Musso pickup went to people with a caravan, a horsebox or a plant trailer behind them. Those two groups treat a vehicle very differently, and the history tells you which one you are looking at.
The brand also went through administration and a change of ownership before returning to the UK as KGM. That history left gaps in dealer coverage and some nervous residuals. A used SsangYong can be genuinely good value because of it, but the paperwork matters more than usual. Check the finance, the keeper record and the MOT mileage before the price tempts you.
Risks to check on a used SsangYong / KGM.
Every used SsangYong / KGM has a history. These are the specific things worth confirming before you commit.
Long agreements on the Musso
The Musso was often bought as a working pickup on a four or five year deal, sometimes through a small business. If the vehicle changes hands early the balance stays attached to it. A finance check names the lender and the agreement date so you know where you stand.
Mileage that stops making sense
Rexton and Musso examples that tow for a living cover big annual miles. A run of MOT readings that suddenly flattens, or a reading lower than the one before it, is the clearest warning you will get. Carpeep lists every DVSA mileage reading in date order.
Repaired damage on cheap stock
Low values make a damaged SsangYong worth repairing to a lower standard than a mainstream rival would get. A Cat S or Cat N marker sits on the vehicle record permanently. Check for it before you inspect, not after you have paid a deposit.
Trade and fleet keepers
Tivoli and Korando stock often passes through hire fleets and short trade ownerships. A tight run of keeper changes over a couple of years usually means the vehicle was moved on quickly for a reason. Keeper dates give you something concrete to ask the seller about.

Where the demand sits and what to look at.
The Tivoli is the volume car. It is a compact crossover bought on price, so most examples have led ordinary suburban lives and the main risks are trade churn and finance from a PCP deal. The Korando does similar work with more space. On both, keeper history and mileage readings tell you more than the mileage on the dashboard.
The Musso pickup and the Rexton are the specialist end. Buyers want towing capacity and a payload, and they get it cheaper than from a Hilux or a Ranger. That is exactly why they need the closest inspection. Check the MOT advisory record for corrosion and suspension, and confirm no finance is running before you agree a price.
Before you buy
When to run a SsangYong history check.
Run it before you travel. SsangYong and KGM stock is thinner on the ground than Ford or Kia, so buyers often drive a long way to see one. Ten minutes of checking beats a wasted afternoon and a difficult conversation on a forecourt.
Run it again on any Musso or Rexton sold by a trader who took it in part exchange. Working vehicles carry the most finance and the hardest miles, and the seller may know less about its past than they think.

SsangYong History Check FAQs
Is a KGM the same as a SsangYong?
Yes. KGM is the current UK name for the same manufacturer, so older cars wear SsangYong badges and newer ones wear KGM. The vehicle record follows the registration and the VIN, not the badge. Enter the reg and Carpeep returns the finance, write-off, stolen, MOT and keeper data held against that vehicle whichever name it was sold under.
Does the brand's UK history affect resale?
It can. A marque with fewer dealers and a smaller buyer pool usually sells slower and for less than a mainstream equivalent. That is not a fault, and it can work in your favour when buying. It does mean you should be more careful about finance and damage markers, because a lower value makes a poor repair more likely to have been worth doing.
What should I check on a used Musso?
Look hard at how it has been used. Pickups tow, carry weight and often work on rough ground. Read the MOT history for repeated advisories on suspension, brakes and corrosion, and check the mileage readings run in a sensible line. Then check finance, because working pickups are frequently bought on long agreements that outlast the first keeper.
Can I tell if a Rexton has towed heavily?
Not directly, but the evidence usually shows. High annual mileage, a fitted towbar noted on inspection and MOT advisories around the rear suspension, brakes and tyres all point the same way. Carpeep gives you every MOT test result and advisory, which is the closest public record of how hard a vehicle has worked.
What does the £15 report include?
Outstanding finance, insurance write-off markers including Cat A, B, S and N and the older C and D, police stolen markers, mileage from DVSA MOT readings, the full MOT test and advisory history, registered keeper history and keeper change dates, plate transfers, colour changes, import and export markers, scrapped markers, VIN and identity cross-reference, tax status and vehicle specification.
