MG Rover stopped building cars at Longbridge in April 2005, and the last 25s, 45s and 75s were registered around that point. Every Rover for sale in Britain today is therefore at least twenty years old, and most have passed through several sets of hands. That is a long time for a record to build up, and a long time for details to go missing.
Rovers split into two camps. Some were owned from new by careful drivers who covered very few miles, and those cars survive in remarkable condition. Others became cheap transport, changing keeper every year or two with the minimum spent on them. The registration tells you which one you are looking at long before the seller does.

Genuinely low miles, or not

The 75 leads, with the 25 and 45 mostly gone from the roads.
The 75 is the model people actively look for, in saloon, Tourer and V8 form, and clean examples with a documented past now sell for more than they did a decade ago. The 25 and 45 have thinned out badly, kept alive mainly as cheap runarounds and by owners who like them.
Streetwise versions of the 25 turn up occasionally and were only sold in small numbers. Whatever the model, read the MOT advisories for corrosion on sills and rear arches, brake and suspension wear, and emissions failures on K-series cars, then set that against the mileage the report shows.
Before you buy
When to run a Rover history check.
Check before you view, especially for a 75 or an MG-badged version being sold as a preserved car. The claim usually rests on low mileage and few keepers, and both are in the report. If the record does not back the advert, you have saved yourself a journey.
Check again before you pay. A Rover can change hands privately with nothing more than a V5C, and the person selling it may not be the registered keeper. Carpeep shows how many keepers there have been and when the last change was recorded.

Can a Rover still have outstanding finance on it?
It can. Finance follows the car, not the seller, and agreements taken out years ago are sometimes never settled. Values are low, but a lender with a registered interest can still recover the vehicle from you. Carpeep checks hire purchase, PCP and conditional sale agreements recorded against the registration.
