Why a used Saab needs checking.
Saab production ended in 2011 when the Swedish factory stopped building cars, and the last examples reached UK buyers soon after. That makes every 9-3, 9-5 and 900 a used car with a full life already recorded. Values fell hard after the collapse, so cheap examples circulate quickly and paperwork gets thin between owners.
Saab dealers disappeared with the brand, so servicing moved to independent specialists and, in many cases, to owners working in their own driveways. That is not automatically bad, but it does mean the written record matters more than the seller's word. The 9-3 and 9-5 make up most of what is left on the market.
The second-generation 9-3 is the Saab you will see most, usually as a 1.9 TiD saloon or the Convertible, which holds its price better than the rest. The 9-5 splits into the long-running first car and the rarer 2010 to 2011 model, which sold in small numbers here and is now harder to find parts for.
The classic 900 and the 9-3 Viggen have moved into enthusiast territory, where cars get stored, revived and traded between owners. Whatever you look at, read the MOT record for corrosion advisories on sills and subframes, and confirm the mileage pattern before you judge the asking price.

Can you still check a Saab even though the brand has gone?
